Creating Christmas pictures

What you’ll need:

  • White card
  • PVA glue
  • Poster paints
  • Cotton wool
  • White shredded tissue paper
  • Glitter

We have a big craft cupboard, full of lots of crafty things, and we love putting random things together to make lovely pictures. We loved making these Christmas pictures and it was so incredibly easy.

We started by painting a blue background onto out card, this made the sky. Once dried we painted on our Christmas tree.DSC_6132

Whilst waiting for our tree to dry, we took some cotton wool balls and stuck them down to make our snowmen (You can use a little more paint to give them some eyes, nose and buttons). The boys loved feeling the cotton wool between their fingers.

Next we basted the bottom half of the picture with glue, then taking handfuls of tissue paper we pressed it down to create the snow. Making sure each layer of paint was dry before moving onto the next, we painted decorations onto our tree.

Finally we basted some more glue on the top half of the picture and sprinkled our glitter all over, we had gold in the cupboard but silver would look lovely too.

Not only do these create lovely festive scenes but the contrast of textures is wonderful for little ones. You have the rough dried paint and glitter. The silky, soft cotton wool. And the tickly, stringy tissue paper.

Why don’t you try it too?
